Plot

Renato Carosone is one of the most renowned and unique Italian musicians ever. But, although everyone around the world is able to immediately recognize his songs, his story has not been told yet. From 1930s Naples to the Italian colonies in Africa, the Dolce Vita of 1950s Rome, Carosone and his many bands find a perfect, compelling mix of swing, Neapolitan song writing and North-African rhythm, peppered by a caustic, still modern sense of humour. The film portrays Carosone from his humble beginnings as a theatre player, to the worldwide, chart-topping success – thanks to smash hits such as Tu vuo’ fa’ l’americano, Torero, O’ Sarracino among many others – and the astonishing farewell to the stage on live TV. All the major steps in the life of a towering figure in music, who loved his music and his audience more than his own success.
