Plot
Since television entered Italian homes, many things have changed: the way they speak, write, look, what they desire and even what they dream. Laura is a girl who is fascinated (as many were in 1957) by the power of TV, she passed the competitive selection for a job as a secretary in RAI against her father’s will. She would do anything to be part of that extraordinary world. Carosello is her first and only love. Laura loves everything that this program represents: the products it promotes and the models for happiness it presents. Determined and reliable, she dreams of a life like one she sees on the screen, with bright and glossy colors.
For Mario, on the other hand, the TV is an appliance like any other, a household appliance. Creative and very talented, he works as a director for Carosello from its first shooting day but his dream is cinema, he is only there in passing. Laura sees Mario as an intellectual snob and a player and he, in turn, thinks that Laura is a naive girl, one of the many who are fooled by false myths and fantasies. At first there are sparks between the two – she is dreamy yet determined, he is ironic and a show off – but as the years pass, the iconic years in the history of Carosello, things change and hostility turns into respect, and respect turns into affection, affection into attraction and attraction, well, after twenty years and so many mistakes on both ends, it could finally become love.
